A majestic herbaceous perennial with glossy architectural leaves and equally impressive flower spikes of purple and white, which appear in late spring and summer. Native to the Mediterranean, Acanthus spinosus is incredibly drought tolerant once established - perfect for hot dry borders! Bear's Breeches make excellent cut flowers, adding height to cottage garden borders or working equally well in exotic themed gardens. Height: 1.2m (4'). Spread: 1m (3').

Grow Acanthus in any fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Acanthus plants are drought tolerant once established and will even cope well in an exposed position.
Bears Breeches requires little maintenance throughout the season except for removing the faded flower stems at the base of the plant.
