Acer palmatum ‘Phoenix’ delivers a dramatic series of colour transitions through the growing season. It makes a stunning statement in spring, when the leaves emerge a brilliant pink with contrasting yellow-green veins. As the season progresses, the yellow colour expands towards the leaf margins, eventually transforming to shiny green with bronze edges. Another transformation arrives in the autumn, when the foliage blazes orange, red and yellow.

Acer palmatum ‘Phoenix’ has an upright habit with deeply divided, small to medium foliage carried on bright red leaf stalks. This slow growing tree is ideal for providing multiple seasons of interest in small gardens and containers. Height: 6m (20ft). Spread: 3m (10ft).

Grow Acers in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade. It's important to give plants shelter from strong winds which can scorch the leaves.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
