A novel variety of the Chocolate Vine, Akebia quinata 'Cream Form' offers flowers in white chocolate instead of the usual dark chocolate maroon! Pendant umbels of small, vanilla scented, creamy-white flowers with purple centres appear from March to May. Semi-evergreen foliage composed of five oval leaflets hovers daintily on long stalks, emerging bronze in spring and flushing purple in winter. Akebia quinata 'Cream Form' makes a great choice for shady walls and fences, quickly scrambling over them and hiding eyesores with its unusual flowers and pretty foliage. Ultimate height: 10m (32ft). Ultimate spread: 2m (6.5ft).

Grow Akebia in any reliably moist, well drained soil. Choose a position in sun or semi shade. Once established, avoid moving unless completely necessary as Chocolate Vines resent root disturbance.

Akebia requires little maintenance. Train the stems onto an appropriate support. After flowering, the stems may be prune to fit the available space.
