This mix showcases everything alliums have to offer, from the tall, majestic globes of Allium ‘Purple Sensation’ to the little golden starbursts of Allium moly. Bridging the gap between the end of spring bulbs and the beginning of the main summer display, they add colour, texture and architecture to borders plus a feast of early nectar for pollinators. Easy to grow, once planted they will virtually take care of themselves.
Allium Mix contains the following six varieties:
Allium ‘Purple Sensation’(5 bulbs. Bulb size: 9/10cm) - The architectural blooms of these violet-purple alliums are sure to make a statement in your summer borders. Allium caeruleum (10 bulbs. Bulb size: 4/5cm) - Bright blue globes of starry flowers are carried on stiff upright stems in early summer. Alliums thrive in light sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4") and a distance of 10cm (4") apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.
Alliums require little maintenance. Leave stems of faded allium flowers intact to enjoy their spectacular seedheads in autumn. Divide overcrowded clumps of alliums after flowering. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
