An exotic blend of perfumed, funnel shaped flowers in wonderful bold colours and subtle pastel shades, are carried above ribbed sword-shaped foliage. These unusual summer flowering bulbs make a vibrant summer display on the patio, in the greenhouse or conservatory, or in sheltered borders outdoors. Babiana bulbs are not hardy, so they are best grown in containers that can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Height: 25cm (10"). Supplied as 4/5cm bulbs.

Babiana bulbs are not hardy, so they are best grown in containers that can be moved to a heated greenhouse or conservatory during winter, with a minimum temperature of 5C (41F). Plant babiana in spring at a depth of approximately 20cm (8") using a loam-based compost such as John Innes No.2. Place containers in a warm, bright position. Alternatively, plant them in sheltered sunny borders in rich, well drained soil. They will need lifting in autumn for storing in a frost free position.

Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. After flowering reduce watering to allow the bulbs to dry off as the foliage dies back. Containers must be moved to a frost free position and bulbs grown in borders should be lifted and stored, before replanting in spring.
