An early season variety, it’s often the first one to ripen in mid/late July. The fruit is borne on bushy, reasonably compact plants, which are especially cold hardy, tolerating cold, wet soils and resisting root rot better than other varieties.
Blueberries are incredibly rewarding fruit bushes to grow because they easily earn their place in the garden for their ornamental qualities alone – with white, waxy blossom in the spring followed by fiery red and orange autumn colours. They are perfect for growing in pots of ericaceous compost on a sunny patio where you can enjoy their beauty and help yourself to easy-pickings of their delicious berries. Height and spread: 120cm-150cm (4 to 5ft).
Although self-fertile, like all Blueberries ‘Patriot’ will produce its best crops if grown with another blueberry to increase pollination.
Estimated time to best yields: 28-32 months (16-20 months for 3l potted plant).

Blueberries require a well drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3.If possible, blueberries should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in their third year. As fruits begin to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. From their third year, begin to prune out the oldest stems each autumn to promote new growth and maintain a healthy plant framework.Seeds and garden supplies will normally be delivered within the time period stated against each product as detailed above. Plants, bulbs, corms, tubers, shrubs, trees, potatoes, etc. are delivered at the appropriate time for planting or potting on.
