Sow at any time of the year on the surface of a good seed compost but do not cover with compost. Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Do not exclude light. Germination takes 10-20 days at 20-30°C (70-85F).When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots and finally 15cm (6in) pots.
In the home, grow in a well lit spot, in the greenhouse provide a little shade. Remove the flower spikes as they will weaken the plant.
