Clusters of pale pink, almost white flowers in late spring will cheer up any hedgerow that the Crab Apple is part of. The blooms are attractive to pollinating insects and will, of course later develop into the colourful crab apples that can be coloured shades of yellow, green and even red. Ideal for a colourful hedging scheme or screening. Height: 12m (39'). Spread: 8m (26'). Planting distance: 30cm (12"). Generally crab apples are too tart to eat raw, but their apple flavour becomes intense when cooked. Cab apples have high pectin content great for jam and jellies, and are a perfect ingredient for chutneys.
