Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

RHS Plant of the Year Award finalist for 2024, Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Yulika’ is an exciting variety that is the result of years of careful breeding at Sakamoto Gardening in Japan. The exquisite blooms have a delicate Japanese styling about them, with large double white petals edged with rich pink-red margins, creating a striking bi-coloured effect. New shoots emerge with a burgundy tint, maturing to bright green.

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Yulika’ is a compact deciduous shrub with a long flowering season that lasts all the way from June to September. It is perfect for adding low maintenance, long-lasting colour in smaller gardens. Its luminous white/pink flowers and fresh green foliage lift shady corners whether planted in a container, a north or east-facing border, or in a woodland spot beneath a light tree canopy. Height: 1m (39in). Spread: 80cm (32in).

1 x 3 Litre Potted Plant (KH0548)

Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
