Lythrum virgatum ‘Rosy Gem’ is an incredibly versatile perennial that tolerates all soils except very dry ones, whether in sun or part shade, thriving even on heavy clay and in soils that sit permanently wet, making it a great choice for pondside planting. Tall spikes of deep rose-pink flowers are produced from midsummer into autumn, with bees and butterflies flocking to the nectar-rich blooms. Purple loosestrife is a tough and reliable perennial that will come back year after year with very little maintenance required; its strong stems standing up to the wind without any staking needed. As well as being perfect for pondsides, Lythrum virgatum ‘Rosy Gem’ looks great in prairie planting and cottage garden borders. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Grow Purple Loosestrife in reliably moist, well-drained soil in a sunny border or submerged in the shallow margins of ponds with the crown to a maximum depth of up to 5cm (2") below water level. Choose a position in full sun.

Feed and water regularly until plants are fully established. Deadhead faded Lythrum flowers to encourage a second flush of blooms to be produced.
