Description How to Grow Delivery Reviews
Raspberry 'Glen Prossen' is a fantastic variety that is suitable for both wetter and drier parts of the UK. It begins to produce fruit in June and continues, until the first frosts in autumn. The canes are spineless, making it safe for children to pick the fruit. The berries are medium to large, firm and with a delicious flavour. Ideal for summer desserts, such as pavlovas and Eton mess.  Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 50cm (20").

Water summer fruiting raspberries well for the first year until plants are fully established. Loosely tie the stems in to their support wires as they grow. When berries begin to develop, place a net over the plants to protect the crop from birds. In autumn, prune the canes which have fruited over summer to ground level. Canes which have not fruited should be 'tied in' to their supports. Aim to have 6 to 8 fruiting canes per plant. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the canes in spring. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. Set these at the same level as they were in the nursery field – you should see a soil line at the base of the stem. Stake trees, taller shrubs and roses to prevent root disturbance.
