The sweetest cherry tomato you'll ever taste! Tomato 'Sweet Aperitif' is a bushy, cordon tomato, producing a huge crop of bite-size, cherry-red fruits with a refreshing sweet flavour. Individual fruits weigh around 12g each and are produced over a long period, resulting in up to 500 tomatoes - that's about 6kg (13lbs) per plant! These delicious tomatoes have a high sugar content with just enough acidity to create the perfect tomato flavour. Grow Tomato 'Sweet Aperitif' in a greenhouse for the biggest crops, or alternatively a sunny location outdoors. Height: 2m (6.5'). Spread: 50cm (20"). Supplied as plug plants.

Tomato support column - If you're fed up with messing around with canes and twine to keep your tomato plants upright then this durable, plastic framework is perfect for you! Designed with tomato plants in mind, this support simply pushes into the soil or compost around the young tomato plant to allow it to grow up and through the centre, the horizontal rings will automatically allow the heavy trusses of tasty fruit to be supported on them, saving you time and effort!

Repot plants into 9cm pots and grow on in warm frost free conditions until large enough to plant out. In May, when all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise Tomato plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Choose a sheltered position in full sun on reliably moist, well drained soil. Prepare the planting area by digging in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost and adding slow release fertiliser to the soil. Plant tomato plants at a distance of 60cm (24") apart. Alternatively grow tomatoes in patio bags and containers in good quality compost such as John Innes No. 2.Tomato plants will require support as they grow. Drive a (5’) cane into the soil adjacent to each plant and tie the main stem to it with soft garden twine. Water well to settle the soil.
Feed and water plants regularly. Tomatoes should be grown in reliably moist soil. Do not over water or allow the soil to dry out as this is likely to cause blossom end rot on the developing fruits. Feed plants regularly with a high potash plant food once the first truss of fruit has formed. As plants grow continue to tie the main stem to the cane support. Begin "side shooting" tomato plants by removing any sideshoots that develop between the main stem and the leaf stems. When the plant has produced 6 or 7 trusses, "stop" it by pinching out the top of the main stem. This process of "sideshooting" and "stopping" will increase the availability of light and air movement around the developing fruit, and focus the plants energy on producing a good crop of high quality tomatoes. Tomatoes can be harvested as they ripen from July to September.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
