Tulip 'Gavota' offers a striking blend of satiny deep maroon petals livened up with golden yellow margins, creating a bold contrast in your spring garden. This elegant, Triumph tulip boasts sturdy, weather resistant blooms and is one of the more perennial of tulip varieties, returning in following years to give repeat displays in well drained soils. Flowering in mid to late spring, 'Gavota' is perfect for creating dramatic displays in beds, borders, and containers or enhancing cut flower arrangements. Ideal for planting in groups for maximum impact. Flowering late April. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 50cm (20in). Spread: 15cm (6in).

Plant tulip bulbs in late summer or autumn. Tulips will grow well in any moist, well drained soil, except for particularly wet soils. Choose a sunny position that is sheltered from strong winds. When planting tulip bulbs avoid shallow planting as this may reduce the winter cold period that is essential for tulip bulbs to produce flowers in spring. Plant them at a depth of 15cm (6") and at a distance of 13cm (5") apart.

After flowering, deadhead the faded tulip flowers and allow the foliage to die back completely before removing it in summer. Caution: Tulip bulbs are an irritant to skin and eyes, and are harmful if eaten.
