Description Sowing More Info Delivery Reviews
The Weeping fig is a well-known and popular houseplant, forming a magnificent evergreen tree after many years. In the meantime, this slow growing plant makes a fine focal point for any bright sunny room, taking many years to outgrow its space. The glossy evergreen leaves and gently arching branches provide a charming, year round focal point, that sits effortlessly within almost any style of interior design. Height: 300cm (118"). Spread: 150cm (59").

1 Packet (50 Seeds) (KB5913)

Sow seeds on the surface of a good, free-draining, damp, seed compost. Then lightly cover, 1mm deep with vermiculite or compost. Place container in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag at a temperature of 21-26C (70-80F) until after germination which usually takes 10-42 days.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, into trays or 7.5cm (3") pots. Ficus benjamina needs careful placement if it is to thrive. Weeping Figs dislike being moved and tend to shed their leaves if repositioned, so it is worth taking care to find the right spot, with plenty of room to grow, from the outset. Position in a bright room, away from cold draughts and radiators, with a constant temperature of between 16-24C (60-75F). Ideally Weeping Figs should receive a good balance of sun and shade, but avoid the direct glare of the sun.

Water regularly between spring and autumn using tepid rainwater where possible, and allowing the pot to drain well after each watering. In winter, reduce watering but do not allow the compost to dry out completely. House plants should be fed regularly between March and September when they are in active growth. Weeping Fig appreciates a humid atmosphere - stand it on a tray filled with pebbles and water. As the water evaporates it will increase humidity around the plant. The oldest leaves of Ficus benjamina will naturally die off as the plant grows. These should be carefully removed, to maintain a tidy appearance. Any necessary pruning should be undertaken between in autumn or winter. Avoid moving Weeping Fig plants unless entirely necessary.
