Weigela 'Candida' makes a real statement, with its tall, arching stems and spreading habit. This is a particularly large cultivar, at its best when grown as a specimen shrub and given space to mature and to allow the branches to arch to the ground. Its stems are covered with elegant, simple white tubular flowers in May and June. These nectar-rich blooms are popular with pollinating insects, making this a good choice for a wildlife area. Height and spread: 2.5m (8’).

Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Weigela plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the oldest stems to ground level.
