Crinodendron hookerianum 'Ashmount'Chilean Lantern Tree

Crinodendron hookerianum ‘Ashmount’ is a rare and sought-after variety of the ‘Chilean Lantern Tree’. Instead of the usual red flowers, ‘Ashmount’ bears its lovely lanterns in a delicate shade of pink, standing out beautifully against the dark foliage background. Unlike the equally rare white-flowered variety, which is a little more shy to flower, ‘Ashmount’ produces its blooms in equal abundance to the original red form.

Crinodendron is an unusual specimen shrub for a sheltered spot in acid soil. Even when not in flower, it makes a handsome feature, forming a large, evergreen shrub clothed in leathery, rich green, narrow leaves. But the real show starts in late spring when it produces extraordinary, lantern-shaped, pendulous flowers which hang elegantly from long stalks. The thick-petalled, waxy flowers are produced over many months, continuing until the end of summer.
