Bred to exhibit both spectacular foliage and beautiful flowers, this Bleeding Heart is a must for a shady area in your garden. Dicentra 'Burning Hearts' quickly forms a mass of blue grey, almost silver, fern like foliage in the spring which is quickly followed by the well know arching stems of ruby red, heart shaped flowers, each edged in white. A truly wonderful combination of texture and colour, this hardy perennial will be the highlight of your spring garden. Height: 25cm (10"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Grow dicentra plants in well drained, reliably moist, fertile ground in partial or dappled-shade. Dicentra prefers a humus-rich, neutral or alkaline soil. Improve soil conditions by adding plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting.

In spring, apply a mulch of chipped bark or well-rotted garden compost to the base of the plant to help retain moisture in the soil during the growing season. Dicentras have particularly fragile roots and are best left undisturbed if possible. However, overcrowded clumps may be divided in late autumn or early spring if necessary.
