In all but the warmest areas, grow Venus Fly Trap plants indoors or in a frost free greenhouse in bright, filtered light. Plant Venus Fly Traps in pots of peaty, acid soil that remains wet and boggy. This is best achieved by standing the pot in a saucer of 1cm of water throughout the growing season. Always use rainwater, as carnivorous plants are particularly sensitive to the lime contained in tap water.
Throughout the growing season water Dionaea plants from the bottom of by standing the pot in a saucer of soft water to keep the compost moist and boggy. In autumn, Venus Fly Traps become dormant and the compost should be kept just moist. Resume watering, when plants start into growth again. During winter Dionaea plants require a temperature of around 5C (32F).
