Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Possibly the simplest form of all roses and still the most effective as a hedging plant. The Dog Rose, Rosa canina has long, thorny stems that grow vigorously every year to form a dense thicket which is the perfect barrier/deterrent hedge. Pale pink or white flowers cover the hedge in summer, providing a touch of colour and these will develop into bright red hips by autumn which are enjoyed by wildlife. Supplied as 60 - 90cm bareroots (24 - 35") Height: 400cm (157"). Spread: 250cm (98"). Planting Distance: 50cm (20"). (3 plants per metre for a single line hedge).

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Companion planting: Try growing roses with garlic, chives, thyme or mint to help deter aphids and blackfly.

Plant bareroot roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole.
Feed and water rose plants regularly .In late summer, begin pruning rugosa roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged branches. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
