Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

The Kumquat is a prolific fruiter producing numerous miniature oranges which are about the size of an olive (3-4cm diameter). Eaten whole they have a sweetly flavoured peel which contrasts with their tart juice. Grow your own and experiment with Kumquat sauces, marinades, marmalades, and chutneys. An attractive and novel citrus to grow.

Citrus trees are ideal feature plants, bringing a touch of Mediterranean style to conservatories and patios. They make excellent, long-lasting, and fragrant gifts. When you give an orange or a lemon tree as a present, you’re giving a decorative, scented, and productive plant! The delicate waxy, and highly scented flowers are beautifully offset by the lush, shiny green foliage.

They will take time to mature and fruit, but are wonderful, classy plants in their own right with the additional bonus of intense scent. Hardy to 5°C, they are best grown outdoors from May to October, and brought inside for the winter.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Height Up to 300cm (118in)

1 x 3 Litre Potted Plant (KC5646)

Plant citrus trees in patio containers in a mix of ericaceous compost and neutral, soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot the plant at its original soil level and firm well into the new container. Water well and position in a frost free position in full sun.
Stand citrus trees outside from May to October. Water freely in summer and mist leaves daily to increase humidity and discourage pests. Feed with citrus plant fertiliser every 2 weeks. Move plants indoors from October to a bright, frost free position (4-12°C) away from cold draughts and radiators. Reduce watering in winter but do not let the plant dry out completely. Too much or too little water may cause the fruits to drop.
