Grow Loropetalum chinense in a sheltered position in rich fertile, moist, well drained soil in semi or dappled shade. Although perfectly hardy with maturity, young Loropetalum plants will benefit from some winter protection until they are well grown.

Lightly prune Loropetalum chinense in early summer after flowering to maintain the shape of the plant and remove any damaged, crossing or wayward stems.
