Plant Firethorns in any moist, well drained garden soil. Pyracantha are resilient plants and once established they will grow in most soils positions from full sun to light shade, on light or heavy soils. Wall trained plants will require support by tying the stems into a framework of horizontal wires.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until Pyracantha plants are fully established. Tie in the shoots of wall trained shrubs regularly to promote a strong framework of stems. After flowering, prune side shoots to 2 to 3 leaves from the base of each shoot to expose Pyracantha berries for the best autumn display. Remove old fruit trusses in spring to make way for new growth.
