Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. Snowdrops should be planted from September to November. Choose a position in dappled shade in reliably moist, well drained soil. Snowdrops prefer a soil rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or compost to the soil. Space bulbs randomly throughout the planting area at a distance of 1cm (4") apart and plant them at a depth of 5cm (2"), with the pointed end facing upwards. For natural looking drifts, gently cast them across the planting area and plant them where they land!
Snowdrops particularly dislike dry soil in summer so water regularly during the growing season until bulbs are fully established. When growing snowdrops, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally. Avoid mowing areas of grass where bulbs are naturalised until their foliage has completely died back.
