Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Golf Ball’ forms a pleasing, dome-like shape even without regular trimming, reaching a maximum height of around a metre with maturity. Treated to a regular trim, it can be kept as an even tighter, smaller ball and makes a superb, disease-resistant substitute for box. Small, glossy, bright green leaves form a dense, evergreen shrub that is robust, low maintenance and rarely troubled by pests. Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Golf Ball’ can be planted into decorative containers and grown in the same way as box balls to accent architectural features. Alternatively, plant it in the border to create ‘punctuation marks’ that add all-year-round structure, or use several at 60-90cm spacings to form a neat, low hedge that stays green and glossy all year round.
